EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette women's soccer coach Mick Statham has named Jacquelyn Marchese and Alisa Chapla captains for the 2008 season. Marchese and Chapla will be one of four seniors on a young, but deep roster in 2008.

"With graduating 10 seniors and bringing in 10 more players for the fall of 2008, its obvious that we need a different kind of leadership to move the program forward," Statham said.

"Both Jackie and Alisa have certain traits that are very similar. Both of them have impeccable characters and are extremely hard workers. And they both know that when the team is together, it's stronger. In saying that, they both also have some unique strengths that they will bring to the team. I completely trust both players to be an extension of me, a representation of their teammates to the coaching staff and lead the team with the kind of character and integrity that you associate with winners."

Marchese played in eight games for Lafayette last season while being hampered by an injury. Chapla made 14 appearances for the Maroon and White.

"The program has come a long way in the past two years, and I am confident to say more growth will come," Marchese said. "I am very excited to be able to spend one more year with these girls, as I have learned a lot from them both on and off the field. Coach speaks of us building a cathedral, or a tradition of legacies. As captain, I am looking forward to leading and guiding my team through the construction and giving back to a program that has taught me so much."

"We're looking to move the program in a positive direction, and that starts with the senior leadership, not just captains," Chapla said. "I look forward to next season and am excited about the opportunity I have both as a senior and as a captain to lead the team in the right direction."

The Leopards will begin their spring regimen once the spring semester commences and kick-off the 2008 season on Aug. 29 when they travel to Delaware.
