Two Leopards Honored by LVAIAW
May 6, 2009
EASTON, Pa. - Two Lafayette student-athletes - women's lacrosse player Kristin Ruminski and field hockey player Maggie Condon - were honored by the Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (LVAIAW) at a luncheon on Tuesday afternoon. Ruminski was named the Most Outstanding Athlete in the sport of women's lacrosse while Condon earned Lafayette's Most Outstanding Athlete Award.
Ruminski's award is voted upon by coaches in the association--Lafayette, Lehigh, Moravian, Muhlenberg, Cedar Crest and Kutztown. The senior co-captain is the first Lafayette women's lacrosse to earn the award since Fallon Cunningham in 2004.
Ruminski scored 18 goals this season, third on the team, and finishes her career with 103 goals. This spring, the Mathematics-Economics major also added five assists for 23 points. She led the team in ground balls (35), draw controls (37) and caused turnovers (11). Ruminski leaves College Hill having started all 65 of her career games.
Condon received the award for Lafayette's Most Outstanding Athlete. The three-time All-Patriot League First Teamer and two-time Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Mideast First-Teamer was selected by a vote from the coaches and administration.
Condon, an Economics and Business major, was responsible for a Patriot League best eight game-winning goals in her senior year and ranked 25th nationally for her goals per game average (.79). In her four years at Lafayette, she started in all but four of her 74 career games and tallied 33 goals and 13 assists for a combined 79 points.
