EASTON, Pa. – Three members of Lafayette’s athletic teams were honored with outstanding athlete awards by the Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (LVAIAW) at their annual banquet on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Emily Valeo took home the outstanding field hockey athlete and outstanding athlete at Lafayette honors, while junior Ana White was named the outstanding athlete in women’s lacrosse and senior Dana Purdy earned outstanding athlete honors in swimming and diving.

"Emily is very deserving of the field hockey and outstanding female athlete award from the LVAIAW,” field hockey head coach Jennifer Stone said. “She has worked very hard throughout her four-year career, and I'm happy to see her receive this honor from the Lehigh Valley as well."

Lafayette, Lehigh, Cedar Crest, DeSales, Kutztown, Moravian and Muhlenberg are each eligible to nominate players for the Outstanding Athlete by Sport and Outstanding Athlete by Institution awards.

Valeo captained the 2012 Lafayette field hockey team to its second straight Patriot League Championship and was the 2012 winner of the Maroon Club Scholar-Athlete award. Following the season, she was selected for the All-Patriot League First Team, as well as the Patriot League All-Academic Team.

White had a stellar junior season with the women’s lacrosse team that lost a heartbreaker last week in the Patriot League Semifinal, a 9-8 defeat to Navy. She was named the Patriot League Midfielder of the Year and holds the Patriot League career record for draw controls with 297 in three seasons.

“This recognition is well deserved,” women's lacrosse head coach Alison Fisher added. “Ana had terrific spring, contributing to our team’s success in a multitude of ways. She joins a long list of talented lacrosse players to be honored by the LVAIAW and she has now solidified her rightful place among them.”

Finally, Purdy is Lafayette’s fifth swimmer to be honored by the LVAIAW since 2004. She holds three school records and is in the top 10 all-time in four different events.

“I am very excited that Dana was recognized this year as the LVAIAW swimming recipient,” swimming and diving head coach Jim Dailey said. “Dana has seized every opportunity in her four years on College Hill. She is a leader in her sorority, teacher’s assistant in her academic department, peer mentor and is a captain on the women’s team. She really exemplifies the student-athlete experience.”
