The Leopards make the trip to Bethlehem, Pa. to take on rival Lehigh in Patriot League women’s lacrosse action on Wednesday night. Lafayette holds a 3-5 overall mark, and a 0-2 record in league contests. The Mountain Hawks are 1-1 in the Patriot League and 3-4 overall.
Last Time Out
Lafayette fell to No. 16/12 Loyola on Saturday afternoon at Fisher Stadium. The Leopards were led by Ana White, who scored four goals in the loss. Amanda Case and Carlianne McCabe each netted hat tricks, while Laura Kleiber tallied a pair of goals for the Leopards.
Scouting the Mountain Hawks
The Lehigh attack is powered by Carli Sukonik’s team-high 17 goals and 19 points. Allison LeBeau and Krista Dampman have each scored 12 goals, while Kendall Garden is the final Mountain Hawk in double-figures with 11 tallies. LeBeau and Garden lead the team with six assists apiece. Garden also has a team-high 18 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers. In goal for the Mountain Hawks, Alexandra Fitzpatrick has started all seven games, carrying a 7.68 goals against average and a .514 save percentage.
Lafayette alum Alison Fisher leads the Leopards in her sixth season. She is 29-64 in her career. Jill Redfern is in her sixth season in charge of the Mountain Hawks. She holds a 60-45 record in her seven-year career.
The Leopards are 21-21 all-time against Lehigh, including last season’s 6-5 victory.
Leopards on the Attack
Senior Ana White leads the Lafayette attack with 27 points, followed by Laura Kleiber’s 23 points. The duo is tied for sixth in the Patriot League each averaging 2.50 goals per game. Freshman Amanda Case is third on the team with 11 goals, while sophomore Charlotte Avallone has contributed 12 points coming on 10 goals and two assists. Rookie Kirsten Wilhelmsen is the last Leopard in double-figure points with 11, scoring nine goals and handing out a pair of assists.
Ana White leads the team in ground balls (19) and caused turnovers (17), while Meghan Curtin has scooped up 13 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. Rachel Martin has 11 ground balls and eight caused turnovers, while sophomore Laura Rowan has picked up 10 ground balls for Lafayette.
Between the Pipes
Curtin has played every minute in goal for the Maroon and White. She has holds an 11.25 goals-against average and has made 49 saves this season for a .353 save percentage.
Charlotte Rath and Maggie Carver have started all eight contests on defense. Rath has corralled 13 ground balls while forcing nine turnovers. Carver has seven ground balls and five caused turnovers. Offensively, Kirsten Wilhelmsen sits fourth on the team with 11 points on nine goals and two assists. Amanda Case, the Patriot League Rookie of the Week Feb. 25, has buried 11 goals this season, while Alexis Thompson has made seven starts for the Maroon and White and has scored a pair of goals.
Around the League
Eight Patriot League teams are in action on Wednesday as Navy visits American, Holy Cross travels to Boston University, Bucknell hosts Loyola and the Leopards take on Lehigh in Bethlehem.
Lafayette remains on the road for its next two games. The Leopards take on Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. on Saturday and visit Central Connecticut on March 25.
