Spotted on Campus With...Tara Winter
Feb. 8, 2010
Each week, the staff at GoLeopards.com catches up with a student-athlete. Today we kicked off February by talking with junior women's lacrosse player Tara Winter. The History major filled us in on Peru, her large family and more.
What's your major and what do you like about your major? I'm a History major which I chose because I thought it was an interesting topic to learn about the historical movements that happened throughout the past around the world. Also, the Lafayette history department teachers are quite fascinating and intellectually motivating to students.
What's been the most unique or interesting academic project you've been able to work on at Lafayette? The most unique academic project I worked on was through my Freshmen Seminar class in which I had to volunteer at a Women's Shelter in Easton, taking care of the children who lived there. This was interesting to go there in itself but then I did a report on homeless women in the United States to connect it with the women in Easton which was quite interesting.
What is your earliest lacrosse memory? The earliest lacrosse memory is when I'm about 10 years old playing in the back yard with all my three brothers, just passing around and shooting.
What can you take from your sport and incorporate into everyday life? My sport teaches me the ability to work with others, time management, discipline and hard work.
What do you still wish to accomplish (on or off the field)? Even though I'm a low defender I think it would be really cool to score at least one goal in my college career.
My pregame ritual is... Just a good pump up song.
Sport you would play other than your own? Even though I don't know how to play, I think soccer would have been a fun sport to play.
Something about me that others would be surprised to hear is: I have about 50 first cousins and I'm pretty close with all of them.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Europe, Australia, South Africa, everywhere.
How did you spend the interim session? Over winter session I volunteered through Cross-Cultural Solutions in Lima, Peru.
