Kirby Tabbed Preseason All-Patriot League

Feb. 6, 2018

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Junior Jane Kirby of the Lafayette women’s lacrosse team was selected to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team after having a breakout sophomore campaign, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Last season, Kirby was selected to the All-Patriot League Second Team, a year removed from playing in just six games in her rookie campaign. Starting all 18 games last spring, she scored a goal in every game but two. The Morristown, N.J. product totaled 58 goals, becoming the sixth Lafayette player since 1980 to surpass the 50-goal mark in a single season. Kirby and Kirsten Wilhelmesen ’17 also became the second Lafayette pairing in school history to each score at least 50 goals in the same season.

“We are thrilled that Jane was named to the all-league team,” head coach Alison Fisher said. “The talent in the group of all-league honorees is incredibly impressive and Jane has proven she’s deserving to be listed among the best in our league.

Kirby earned Academic All-Patriot League honors last season, maintaining a 3.50 grade-point average as a Psychology major. She scored three or more goals in 13 contests last season, including eight goals in a win over American.

Overall, Lafayette was slotted fifth in the preseason poll with 86 points. Navy was chosen as the league favorite, followed by Loyola, Lehigh, Boston U., Lafayette, Bucknell, Colgate, Army, Holy Cross and American.

“It’s always an honor to be respected by your peers for what you have accomplished and the potential in your program,” Fisher added. “Being ranked fifth is a testament to all the work that the current players, alums and staff (current and former) have done to rebuild this program.”

The Leopards open their season at Longwood on Feb. 11 at 1 p.m.
