Lafayette Women's Lacrosse Closes Season with 18-10 Loss to Columbia

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Columbia's Elyse Pultz tallied a game-high eight points to lead the Lions to an 18-10 win over Lafayette in the season finale for both teams. Pultz scored six goals and dished out two assists. Lindsay Butera, Diana Crai and Kaleigh Mountain scored two goals apiece for Lafayette. Goals by Pultz opened and closed the scoring in the first half. She netted her first goal just 23 seconds into the contest, then gave Columbia a four-goal lead, 8-4, when she scored with 13 seconds remaining in the half. Lafayette's Ashley Dvorak evened the score at one just under 2:00 into the first half, but Columbia scored six straight goals, including two by Pultz and two by Carrie Anderer, to take a 7-1 lead with 11:00 left. The Leopards then scored three times to pull within 7-4 before Pultz's goal just before the break. Mountain scored on a free-position shot 37 seconds into the second half to cut the deficit to three, 8-5, but Lafayette would get no closer the rest of the way. The teams essentially traded goals over the game's final 17:00 before Columbia (7-8) scored three times in the final 1:40 to put the game out of reach. Lindsey Johnson scored three times and handed out two assists for Columbia, while Anderer added three goals and Marisa Marcellino chipped in a goal and three assists. Crai's two goals matched a career high, while Madalyn Booth recorded her 12th straight multi-point game (one goal, two assists) in the loss. Brittany Jesser scored her first career goal and Dvorak tallied an assist for her first career multi-point game. Dvorak, a senior who played primarily on the defensive end for the majority of her career, scored four points, including three goals, in her final three games.
Jaclyn Kushner made 11 saves in goal for Lafayette, while Marcela Calidonio stopped 14 shots to earn the win for Columbia. Lafayette closes the season at 1-14 overall. |
