ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy Mids, leading the Patriot League standings and currently sitting 18th in the national rankings, proved too much for the Lafayette women’s lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon in Annapolis, Md. as they came away with a 15-8 victory.

Junior midfielder Ana White led the Lafayette attack with a five-goal effort to go along with five draw controls, five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Classmate Laura Kleiber chipped in with two goals and one ground ball, while League leading scorer senior Addie Godfrey added the eighth score.

Navy was led by Kathy Young with four goals and one assist, while Aimee Gennaro added three scores, and Jasmin DePompeo and Casey Browne chipped in with two goals apiece. The Mids held the edge in shots (31-17) and ground balls (20-15), while the Leopards snagged 13 of the 25 draw controls.

Navy took control of the game early as a pair of three-goal runs in the first 16 minutes of the contest were broken up by two White scores to give the Mids the 6-2 lead with 14:26 to play in the first half.

White’s third score of the opening half cut the Navy lead to four at 7-3 with 7:59 remaining, but Navy’s Casey Browne and Kathy Young each netted tallies at the 5:25 and 3:33 marks, respectively, to go up 9-3. Kleiber added a score with 2:48 left and the Leopards went into the break down, 9-4.

Coming out in the second, Lafayette was determined to make it a game as White and Kleiber each scored to get the lead to just three, 9-6, with 24:12 on the clock.

Unfortunately, the defense broke down and Navy rattled off four straight scores to put the game out of reach, taking a 13-6 advantage with 15:15 to go. Each side scored two more to finish off the game with a final of 15-8.

Lafayette moves to 6-5 on the season and 0-2 in League play. The Leopards travel to Davidson, N.C. to take on the Wildcats on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
