Griffiths Named NFHCA Mideast Coach of the Year

EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette field hockey head coach Andrew Griffiths was named the NFHCA All-Mideast region Coach of the Year, it was announced Wednesday.

Griffiths led the Leopards to a 17-3 record this season and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Lafayette was the first Patriot League team to earn an at-large bid to the tournament in League history.

The Patriot League Coach of the Year, Griffiths’ Leopards captured the Patriot League Regular Season and Tournament Championships in 2012, making it back-to-back tournament titles for the squad.

The Maroon and White fell to eventual national champion Princeton in the NCAA Play-In Game, 6-0 on Nov. 6, but earned an at-large bid to the tournament, in large part due to two wins over top-25 teams during the regular season in Drexel (No. 15 on 9/14) and Albany (No. 21 on 9/22).

Lafayette fell to Maryland, 2-0, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in Storrs, Conn. on Nov. 11.

The Division I National Coach of the Year will be announced by the NFHCA on Dec. 17.
