EASTON, Pa. – Senior co-captain Emily Valeo and classmate Jaclyn White were selected as members of the 2012 Academic All-Patriot League squad, the league announced Thursday.

Valeo, an English major from Norristown, Pa., has accumulated a 3.73 GPA in her three years at Lafayette and earns her second Academic All-Patriot League honor. She has been a strong leader for the Leopard midfield, leading the nation in assists per game (1.06).

White is a Geology major from Lincoln University, Pa. Her 3.63 GPA garnered her Academic All-Patriot League honors for the first time in her career. A staple to the Lafayette defensive unit, White is part of a defense that leads the league in shutouts (6), goals-against average (0.88) and goals allowed (14).

“Emily and Jaci have both been tremendous representatives for our team and have excelled in their respective areas of study,” head coach Andrew Griffiths said. “Jaci has worked extensively, doing research with Professor David Sunderlin and Emily has been involved as a peer mentor for two years, helping other student-athletes. We hear positive comments through our small community about the positive impact they both are making and we are proud to have them on our team.”

Valeo and White turn their attention back to the field this weekend as Lafayette plays host to the Patriot League Tournament. The top-seeded Leopards will face fourth-seeded Colgate on Friday at noon, while second-seeded American will take on third-seeded Bucknell in the later game at 3:30 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday.
