Steps Named Rookie of the Week
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Anna Steps was named the Patriot League Rookie Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon. Steps scored four goals across the Leopards final three games of the season this past week.
The Hamburg, Germany native found her scoring touch against Quinnipiac, scoring both of Lafayette’s goals in the contest. Steps opened the scoring at the end of the first half with a skillful deflection off of a corner routine. The freshman then tied the game at 2-2 with another redirection to force overtime against the Bobcats.
Steps proceeded to score the Leopards lone goal against Holy Cross, pairing up once again with Lisa van der Geest on a corner. As van der Geest ripped a shot on target, Steps got just enough of her stick on it to send it up and over Holy Cross’ keeper for the goal.
In the final game of the season at Temple, Steps added another goal to her total for the year. The freshman and van der Geest teamed up again, tipping in the shot to give Lafayette a 3-1 lead en route to a 4-1 win.
This is the first Patriot League award for Steps and it is the second time a Leopards freshman has earned Rookie of the Week honors this season. Grace Angelella took home the award earlier in the year.
