EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette field hockey team dropped one spot to 12th, despite two decisive victories this past week, in the latest NFHCA poll, it was announced Tuesday.
Finishing off the 2012 season on a 13-game winning streak, Lafayette took care of Lehigh and Georgetown this past week in dominating fashion, winning 8-0 and 7-0, respectively. The two shutout wins made it five clean sheets in a row for the Lafayette defense led by sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Deutsch. Deutsch’s 0.93 goals-against average ranks third nationally.
The Leopards finished undefeated in Patriot League play for the first time since 2002. In doing so, Lafayette earned the right to host the Patriot League Tournament, beginning on Friday at Rappolt Field.
The top-seeded Leopards will face off against fourth-seeded Colgate at 10 a.m., while second-seeded American will take on third-seeded Bucknell at 2:30 p.m. The winners will match up in the championship game at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
