Blass Takes Home Sixth Patriot League Weekly Award
Oct. 22, 2012
EASTON, Pa. – Sophomore midfielder Brittany Blass set a Patriot League record, garnering her sixth Defensive Player of the Week award this season after her performance in the team’s 7-0 win over Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon, the League announced Monday.
Blass notched two goals and one assist on the afternoon and led a defensive unit that held the Crusaders without a shot or a penalty corner throughout the game. She anchors a corner unit that produced five of the team’s season-high seven goals on Saturday.
“Our defensive unit has been very consistent and Brittany has been the leader of that group,” head coach Andrew Griffiths said. “Not allowing a shot or a corner in a league game is an impressive feat.”
With the win over the Crusaders, Lafayette clinched a share of the Patriot League regular season championship and solidified its bid to host the Patriot League Tournament.
The Leopards travel to Bethlehem on Saturday for their annual showdown with Lehigh at 11 a.m. before coming home for senior day on Sunday, hosting Georgetown at 2 p.m.
The Patriot League Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 2-3.
