Cicchi Named Patriot League Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week
Sept. 22, 2008
EASTON, Pa. - Sophomore midfielder Meghan Cicchi was named the Patriot League's Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Cicchi helped clinch Lafayette's first shutout of the season in the Leopards' 2-0 win against Penn on Sept. 17, limiting the Quakers to only one shot on goal. Lafayette's defense held Drexel below its season scoring average (3.1 gpg) in the Leopards' 2-1 loss on Sunday, during which Cicchi stopped a number of Dragon breakaways.
This is the Leopards' fourth weekly honor of the season. Cicchi joins midfielder Jaclyn DiSanti, forward Kelly Hilovsky and goalkeeper Kelsey Andersen, who all earned Patriot League honors on Sept. 8.
The Chemistry major now owns two career Defensive Player of the Week nods. Cicchi received the honor last season after helping the Leopards to back-to-back shutout victories over Rider on Oct. 17 and Colgate three days later.
Cicchi is the reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Year after starting all 20 games last season and earning All-Patriot League First-Team honors. She was named the Patriot League's Rookie of the Week after scoring her first collegiate goal (a game-winner) against Quinnipiac on Sept. 9.
Next up, Lafayette (4-3) hosts Monmouth (0-6) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
