Angelella Named Rookie of the Week

Sept. 11, 2017

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Freshman Grace Angelella was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon. Angelella helped drive the Leopards to a 2-0 weekend, securing victories over Fairfield and Drexel.

The Wyoming Area product caged her first collegiate goal in the 4-0 victory over Fairfield on Friday night. Three minutes into the second half, Angelella took control of a loose ball in front of Fairfield’s goal and sent it in for the team’s third tally.

The forward kept her hot hand going into Sunday’s contest against Drexel, as she found the back of the cage twice, helping secure a 4-2 victory for the Leopards. Her first goal came off a slick pass from Sam Di Maio that found the forward alone in front of Drexel’s cage. Angelella took care of the rest, calmly slotting the ball past the keeper to open the scoring.

Angelella added her second tally three minutes later, again receiving a cross into the circle from Di Maio. The freshman used quick hands to redirect the cross past the goalkeeper to double the Leopards’ lead.

Joining Angelella in receiving Patriot League honors this week is sophomore Sarah Park. The goalkeeper was named as an honorable mention for her efforts in the cage over this past weekend, as she posted a shutout against Fairfield and only allowed one goal against Drexel.

The Leopards’ next contest is at Rappolt Field this Saturday, Sept. 16, as they open up conference play against Colgate at noon.
