Blass Named Preseason Defensive Player of the Year

EASTON, Pa.- Junior Brittany Blass was chosen as the Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, while classmate Jenna Seybert joined Blass on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team, the League announced Thursday. The squad was tabbed to finish third in the preseason poll.

Blass earned First Team All-Patriot League honors and was a NFHCA All-Mideast Region selection last season. The junior was also named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week a record six times. She tallied seven goals and one assist for the Leopards, and started in all 20 games. Seybert was an All-Patriot League Second Team selection last season after starting all 20 games on defense for the Maroon and White.

Lafayette took third in the preseason poll, receiving 56 points. Patriot League newcomer Boston University received 71 points including 11 first place votes to top the poll, while American finished second with 59 points and three first place votes. Bucknell (42 points), Colgate (27), Holy Cross (20) and Lehigh (19) rounded out the poll.

The Leopards open their season at home on Sept. 1, hosting Iowa at noon at Rappolt Field. Patriot League play begins Sept. 28 with a trip to Lehigh.
