EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette field hockey senior Brittany Blass was named the Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, while classmate Jenna Seybert joined Blass on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team, the League announced Tuesday.

Blass was a First Team All-Patriot League selection last season and was named to the NFHCA Mideast Region Second Team. She started all 18 games and tied for the team lead with five goals. The senior tallied the game-winning goal against Colgate to secure Lafayette’s place in the Patriot League Tournament.

Seybert was also an All-Patriot League First Team selection following the 2013 campaign. She finished the season with four goals and one assist, starting in all 18 games for the Leopards.

Lafayette finished fourth in the Patriot League preseason poll, receiving 46 points. Last year’s champion, American (68 points) narrowly edged out Boston University (66 points) for the top spot. Bucknell finished a point ahead of Lafayette with 47 points, followed by Colgate with 32. Lehigh (19) and Holy Cross (16) rounded out the list.

The Leopards open the 2014 campaign on the road in Hamden, Conn. against Boston College on August 30.
