May 20, 2013
EASTON, Pa. - Three members of the Lafayette field hockey community will compete in the USA Senior High Performance Field Hockey Tournament on May 23-29 in Norfolk, Va. Head coach Jennifer Stone will compete on the New Jersey squad, assistant coach Rayell Heistand will play for the Pennsylvania team and Carolyn Cabrey '12 will be participating with the Midwest/California Squad.
"It is great to have so many people representing Lafayette at the Senior Women's National Championship this coming week," Stone said. "To experience the highest level of domestic hockey is invaluable both as a player and a coach. We are all looking forward to the tournament."
The tournament consists of 108 athletes on six different teams including five regional squads and one under-21 team. The tournament will conclude with the selection of 24 members that will represent their country on the U.S. National Team.
"The Women's National Championship is the first opportunity for me to see all of the players in one place and that is really quite exciting," U.S. National Team Head Coach Craig Parnham said. "It is very important for me to have a good look at every player at the tournament. I will be looking for players who exhibit delivery under pressure, physical robustness, tactical awareness, a selfless attitude and willingness to grow and develop."
Stone's squad from New Jersey will open the tournament against Heistand's team from Pennsylvania on Thursday at 12 p.m. Cabrey's Midwest/California team will take on the U-21 squad later that day at 4 p.m.
