Leopards' Field Hockey Announces Tri-Captains for 2008 Season

April 16, 2008

EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette field hockey team voted rising seniors Maggie Condon, Jaclyn DiSanti and Lauren Jones to serve as tri-captains for the 2008 season. Condon also served as a captain in 2007.

"The three captains are natural leaders, and the fact that they have the title of captain will not change the dynamics of the group," head coach Andrew Griffiths said. "Lauren, Jackie and Maggie are all extremely competitive and we are proud to have them represent our team and Lafayette College. Each one of the captains has brought a renewed sense of purpose to a tough spring of training so far and they have set a tough standard for the team to follow."

Condon was the Leopards' leading scorer last season with a team-high 10 goals, including two game winners. The Lake Bluff, Ill. native started all 20 games of the 2007 season at midfield and received All-Patriot League First-Team honors for the second time in her career. She earned a spot on the All-Patriot League Tournament Team following Lafayette's appearance in the conference championship game in November. The Economics & Business major was named to the 2007 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Mideast Team for the first time in her career.

Jaclyn DiSanti was named to the All-Patriot League Second-Team in 2007.

"Jackie, Lauren, and I are all very excited at being selected as captains," Condon said. "We all bring different leadership strengths to the team and really work well together. We have been working hard this spring and have improved tremendously as a team. We are really looking forward to this fall and competing at a high level."

DiSanti received All-Patriot League Second-Team laurels following the conclusion of the 2007 season. The defender was also named to the All- Patriot League Tournament Team after helping the Leopards advance to the championship game. The Fairfield, N.J. native scored the game-winning goal against Columbia (9/26) and finished the season with three assists. DiSanti, a Psychology major, was also named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

"Our team works so hard every day, and we are really dedicating and committing ourselves to getting better," DiSanti said. "We have learned and improved so much from last season. We are really looking forward to using what we've learned in our tournaments this spring and next fall."

Jones, a Mathematics & Economics major, started the final 14 games of the season and appeared in 17 in the backfield for the Leopards. She was named to the All-Patriot League Tournament Team as part of the Lafayette defense that helped record the second lowest goals-against average (1.89) in the conference.

"I love our team and I am excited to see what we are going to accomplish in the fall season," Jones said. "We have a lot of talent and a great group of girls that Jackie, Maggie, and I are proud to be captains of. As a captain, I want to encourage, lead by example and motivate my team to be the best competitors we can be."

Lafayette returns 13 letterwinners, including five of the top six leading scorers from 2007. The team also signed eight student-athletes as part of Griffith's first recruiting class and the program's second scholarship group.

Lauren Jones was named to the 2007 Patriot League Tournament team.
