EASTON, Pa. – Carolyn Cabrey ’12, a member of the Lafayette field hockey team from 2008-2011, competed with the U.S. Women’s Indoor National field hockey team in Buenos Aires, Argentina from March 22-26.
“I would say that the trip to Argentina was an invaluable opportunity to play and learn from one of the best hockey countries in the world,” Cabrey said. “I am more appreciative now of the times I get to be a player, especially when I get the chance to play for the US. It was an awesome trip with a talented and diverse group of players.”
In the finale of the Argentinian tour, the Americans came away with their first-ever win over Argentina in a narrow 4-3 victory. Cabrey’s goal in the 17th minute turned out to be the gamewinner.
“I think it’s a great step for the program to be able to compete at this level and beat a team like Argentina,” goalkeeper Maria Keesling (Bucknell ’89) added. “I think we have more steps to take but we are definitely on the right path.”
The squad went 3-3-1 on the week and Cabrey notched two goals, her first coming in the opener, a 6-4 win over the Argentina U-19 team. The Americans also recorded a decisive 3-0 win over Uruguay to post at least one victory over all three teams in competition.
