Field Hockey Earns National Academic Team Honors

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette field hockey team was named as a 2012 Gladiator SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team, announced by the organization on Tuesday.
The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that have achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year.
“Being able to succeed in the classroom and on the athletic field is critical for the Lafayette student-athlete and the team has once again proven themselves in this regard,” head coach Jennifer Stone said. “What the student-athletes do in the classroom is commendable and it's very deserving for them to receive this National Academic Team Award from the NFHCA.”
Additionally, five individuals were named to the 2012 Gladiator SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad by earning a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher. Freshman Sally Trout led the way, boasting a team-high GPA of 3.93, erning her National Scholar of Distinction honors. Seniors Emily Valeo and Jaclyn White were recognized for the fourth-straight year after earning 3.73 and 3.65 GPA’s, respectively. Additionally, sophomore Jenna Seybert (3.38) and junior Kristin Heaney (3.36) were also named to the squad.
On the field, Lafayette captured its second-straight Patriot League Championship in 2012 and the ninth in program history. The Leopards were the first team in Patriot League history to earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament and fell in the opening round to Maryland, 2-0.
