Offensive Fire
Oct. 17, 2009
Easton, Pa. - The weather was no feat for the Leopards and the Mountain Hawks for their 23rd meeting. Lafayette beat Lehigh 3-0 giving goalkeeper Kelsey Andersen her seventh shut-out of the season. The first half was a defensive battle for Lehigh with Lafayette controlling the ball the majority of the time. Off a penalty corner senior Kelly Hilovsky found freshman Deanna DiCroce who put the Leopards on the board first. The Leopards out-shot the Mountain Hawks 14-3 in the first half, while Lehigh goalkeeper Lili Stefaniwsky had seven saves. The start of the second half was all about the Leopards. Lafayette found the back of the cage two times. The first goal by DiCroce was inside the circle and beat out the goalkeeper for her 10th goal of the season. Less than minute later Hilovsky scored for the Leopards, assisted by Bridget Hilbig bringing the game to 3-0. Lafayette out-shot Lehigh 27-4 and had 21-3 penalty corners over the Mountain Hawks. Stefaniwsky had 14 saves on the game while Andersen had four. "This was a very determined team, and a very important game for the girls," said Head Coach Andrew Griffiths. "We had a strong press and great goal chances on the offense. Lehigh hung in for the entire game and it was close till the middle of the second half." Prior to the Varsity game the alumni from Lafayette and Lehigh took the field for a friendly battle. The former Leopards scored two goals while the Mountain Hawks had one. Lafayette will host non-conference opponent Rutgers, tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
