EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette field hockey team played a strong 70 minutes against No. 3 Virginia, but fell 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at Rappolt field. Meghan Cicchi and Maria Machalick were able to get shots on the goal for the Leopards.

Lafayette (2-4) held strong against the nationally-ranked team firing off three shots in the first half while the Cavaliers managed to get off four. Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Andersen played strong making two key saves against Virginia.

Only three minutes into the second half, Virginia's (7-0) Paige Selenski had a fast break-away on the left sideline and beat out two defenders and put the first goal on the board. The Cavaliers were able to get off another three goals against Lafayette in the last 31 minutes of play.

The Cavaliers held a slight 6-4 advantage in penalty corners while both goalkeepers made two saves.

The Leopards are back in action on Sept. 26 when they travel to Quinnipiac for a non-conference game at 11 a.m.
