The Lafayette field hockey team took care of business on Sunday in Philadelphia as they defeated the Temple Owls, 3-0. A first-half goal by sophomore Jenna Seybert, followed by second-half strikes by senior Deanna DiCroce and junior Kristin Heaney moved the Leopards to 3-1 on the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Deutsch recorded her first shutout of the season in net, tallying six saves on 13 Owl shots. DiCroce led the Lafayette attack with a goal and an assist, while senior Emily Valeo and sophomore Kelsey Mead also notched assists in the win.

The majority of the first half was a defensive struggle as it took 27 minutes before the Leopards' first strike. A well-executed corner taken by DiCroce and set up by Valeo led to a Seybert smash past the Owl goalkeeper to put Lafayette on top, 1-0.

The second half started similarly to the first as defensive play prevailed for 18 minutes before the Leopards padded their lead as a scramble in front of the net allowed Mead to slide the ball to Heaney, who  finished to put Lafayette up, 2-0.

Just seven minutes later, a missile from DiCroce at the top of the circle provided some insurance for the Leopards, putting them up 3-0 and sealing their third victory of the season.

The Drexel Dragons provide the next test as they travel to Easton on Friday to take on the Leopards at 7 p.m.
