USA Field Hockey goalkeeper, Amy Tran, returns to the Lafayette field hockey coaching staff as an assistant. She spent her first season as coach working primarily with the goalkeepers and defense.
Tran has been a member of the USA field hockey national squad since 2003 and served as the starting goalkeeper in the 2008 summer Olympics in Beijing. In April 2008, the USA Field Hockey national team earned its first spot in the Olympic field since receiving an automatic host bid for the 1996 games in Atlanta after sweeping the competition in the Olympic Qualifiers Tournament. Tran recorded three shutouts during the tournament in wins against Russia, France, and India.
Tran, regarded as one of the top field hockey goalies in the world, collected her 100th International Cap in Team USA's 2-2 draw in the opening match against Argentina. Tran made seven saves in a 1-1 draw to Japan, the sixth ranked team in the world, and led Team USA to a 4-1 victory over the seventh ranked team in the world, New Zealand. The Americans played to three draws in the tournament as Tran recorded a shutout in a scoreless draw to Great Britain. Overall, the US placed eighth in the games finishing with a 1-3-2 record.
At the 2006 Women's Hockey World Cup, Tran was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament. That same year she was also named a member of the World Hockey All-Star Team.
The Grantville, Pa. native has been a member of the USA U-20, U-21, and U-23 quads since 1999. She graduated from North Carolina in 2002, where she was a two-time All-American, with a degree in Communication and Speech & Hearing Sciences.
She joined Lafayette following the U.S. National Team's International Series against Japan in October 2007.
