Women's Basketball to Conclude Road Trip at Pittsburgh
Dec. 30, 2011
EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's basketball team wraps up a five-game road swing and concludes the 2011 calendar year at Pittsburgh on Dec. 31. The 1 p.m. contest from the Petersen Events Center will feature a live audio broadcast on GoLeopards.com. In the Leopards' last outing on Dec. 29, Emily Homan scored 26 points - the most by a Lafayette player in nearly four years and the most by a Patriot League player this season - to lead the Leopards past East Carolina, 64-57, on day two of the Terrapin Classic hosted by the University of Maryland. Homan completed her first career double-double with 12 rebounds. Homan averaged 19.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in two games at the Terrapin Classic to earn All-Tournament honors. She shot 12-for-23 (52.2 percent) from the floor and 15-for-20 (75 percent) from the free throw line and added three blocks, two steals and two assists in contests against No. 5 Maryland and East Carolina. The Pittsburgh Panthers enter today's game at 7-6 on the season. The Panthers had a three-game winning streak - a run that included wins over Indiana and Michigan State - snapped on Dec. 28 by crosstown rival Duquesne. Pittsburgh is led offensively by Brianna Kiesel, who is averaging 13.7 points per game. Leeza Burdgess heads the effort on the boards with 7.5 rebounds per contest. The Panthers claimed the only meeting in program history, an 80-43 win in Pittsburgh on Nov. 17, 1999. The Leopards will ring in 2012 with their final test prior to Patriot League play - a 5 p.m. clash with Columbia at Kirby Sports Center on Wednesday, Dec. 4. The contest will be followed by the Lafayette men's basketball team hosting Penn at approximately 7:30 p.m. Both games will be televised live on the Lafayette Sports Network and are available live online at GoLeopards.com.
