Grentz Inks Three to Class of 2021

Nov. 9, 2016

EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette head women’s basketball coach Theresa Grentz announced her 2021 recruiting class on Wednesday afternoon.

This is the second time that Grentz has been able to dip her feet into the recruiting pool for Lafayette and she reeled in three skilled players that will join the Maroon and White next fall.

The recruiting class consists of one Pennsylvania native, Natalie Kucowski (Philadelphia) and also features Olivia Martino (Lanham, Md.) and Paige Saylor (Martinsville, Ind.).

“It was a real pleasure recruiting each of them and having the opportunity to meet their families,” Grentz said. “I am really looking forward to teaching them and I can’t wait for them to get here.”

Kucowski is a local player from Philadelphia who helped Saint Basil Academy claim District One Championships in 2013, 2014, and 2015. She serves as a captain in her senior season and was named Second Team All-Academy as a sophomore and First-Team All-Academy as a junior. She also helped her AAU team, the Lady Runnin’ Rebels grab the Under Armour Cup Championship in 2016.

“Natalie is someone who can play inside and outside,” Grentz said. “She has a delightful shooting touch that will really help us spread the floor. She is very bright and someone who has a lot of intangibles she will bring to the table here at Lafayette that will make us better.”

Grentz has stressed the importance of building a championship culture at Lafayette and Martino has plenty of winning experience, playing at both National Christian Academy and national powerhouse, Riverdale Baptist. As a freshman at Riverdale Baptist, she was the lone rookie on a team that won the DICK’S National Championship in 2014. At National Christian Academy, the Lanham, Md. native was a captain during her junior and senior season.

“Olivia is an old soul and an overall team player,” Grentz exclaimed. “On the court, she has the ability to knock down long distance shots and get to the rim. She is someone that I can’t wait to have in the gym and spend time with.”

Saylor will add depth at the guard position when she arrives on College Hill. The 5-5 Martinsville, Ind. native is the second mid-west product to join the Leopards as freshman Tasha Vipond is an Akenny, Iowa product. Kucowski helped Roncalli High School claim a Marion County title in 2015. She is a speedy athlete with great quickness as she currently holds the school record in the 100m and the long jump.

“What you have to love about Paige is that little moxie that she has,” Grentz said. “I have seen it before in great players and she has it. I have been really impressed with her ability to finish at the basket and I am really looking forward to having her with us.”

The 2016-17 Lafayette women’s basketball campaign is set to begin this Friday in Philadelphia as the Leopards face off against La Salle at 6 p.m.
