Kucowski and Freeland Earn All-Rookie Team Honors
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Lafayette women’s basketball team had two players recognized for All-League honors on Friday afternoon as the duo of Natalie Kucowski and Drew Freeland were named to the All-Rookie Team.
Kucowski has had a memorable first season on College Hill, finishing the regular season leading the Leopards in scoring and rebounding with 11.5 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per game. The Philadelphia, Pa. native ranks first in the Patriot League in rebounding and second in blocks with 1.5 per contest while being one of two players to average a double-double. Kucowski led the Leopards in scoring 10 times this season while leading the team in rebounds in 22 contests en route to nine double-doubles. The freshman broke Lafayette’s freshman rebounding record against Navy and is nine rebounds away from the single-season rebounding record as she currently sits at 291.
Freeland started the season as a walk-on and worked her way into becoming a scholarship athlete. The Hidden Valley, Va. native ranks fourth on the team with 7.5 points per game and third in rebounding with 3.6 per contest. The 5-8 guard hit double-figures on six separate occasions this season and is shooting 43 percent from the floor. Freeland has been efficient from behind the arc and holds the second-best single-season mark with a 41.2 percent clip.
Freeland and Kucowski’s sections marks the first time since the 1990-91 season that the Maroon and White have had two All-Rookie Team honorees.
The Leopards season continues this Saturday when the host Boston U. in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. Ticket information can be found here.
