EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's basketball team closes out the 2011-12 regular season against first-place American on Saturday, Feb. 25. The 3 p.m. contest that will be broadcast live on the Lafayette Sports Network and GoLeopards.com with Gary Laubach and John Leone on the call. Three players scored in double figures and two posted double-doubles, but the Leopards were upended at Colgate on Wednesday evening, 69-60. Emily Homan led the way for the Leopards with 15 points and 15 rebounds and Danielle Fiacco added 13 points and 10 rebounds, marking her third consecutive double-double as well as the third straight game that two Lafayette players each registered a double-double. Linnel Macklin was the third Leopard to reach double figures with a career-best 13 points off the bench.
The Leopards are currently slated to be the No. 8 seed in the Patriot League Tournament, but a Lafayette win today and a Bucknell loss at Navy this evening would move the Maroon and White into the No. 7 spot. The seventh-seeded Leopards would travel to either Lehigh or Navy for a quarterfinal matchup, while eighth-seeded Lafayette would head to Washington, D.C. for a rematch with American.
A three-pointer at the buzzer at Bucknell on Wednesday kept American's perfect Patriot League record intact at 13-0 heading into the regular-season finale. The Eagles are 11-1 away from their home court, including a 9-1 tally in true road games. American is led by 11.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game from 2011 Second Team All-Patriot League talent Lisa Strack. Strack, who also leads the club with 3.0 assists per outing, tops the Patriot League in steals (2.7 spg) and free throw percentage (.793).
Lafayette's Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal game will be held on Thursday, March 1. Details will be announced on GoLeopards.com and on Twitter @GoLeopards as they are released by the Patriot League.
