Homan Earns Fifth Patriot League Weekly Award

EASTON, Pa. - Emily Homan has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, as voted upon by the league's women's basketball sports information directors and media. The award is the fifth overall weekly honor and the fourth Rookie of the Week nod for Homan in her freshman campaign. Homan averaged 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds for the Leopards in games against Holy Cross and Lehigh last week. She tallied her third double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds on Wednesday evening in Worcester. On Saturday against the Mountain Hawks, she added 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and a career-best five blocks to contribute to a Patriot League- and Lafayette-record 15 rejections for the Leopards. For the season, Homan is the Leopards' leading scorer with 11.7 points per game and ranks second in rebounding (6.6 rpg) and blocked shots (2.0 bpg). She leads all Patriot League rookies and ranks among the overall top 10 in scoring, rebounding, free throw percentage (.719) and blocks. Homan previously earned Rookie of the Week honors on Dec. 5, Jan. 3 and Jan. 9. She added a Player of the Week nod on Jan. 3 - becoming just the second player in Patriot League history to sweep the weekly awards. Homan's five awards tie the single-season record set by Christel Rocha '01, who was a five-time Rookie of the Week in the 1997-98 campaign. Vanessa Van De Venter '08 holds the Lafayette career record with seven total weekly honors. Led by Homan's five weekly awards, Lafayette has established a new program record with seven weekly honors in one season, surpassing the 1997-98 squad. Brya Freeland took home Rookie of the Week honors on Dec. 12, and Danielle Fiacco claimed a Player of the Week selection on Nov. 28. Lafayette has garnered 50 weekly awards all-time with 21 different players earning league-wide recognition.
Fiacco received an Honorable Mention from the league after posting consecutive double-doubles last week. She tallied a pair of game highs with 17 points and 11 rebounds at Holy Cross on Wednesday then followed up with 11 rebounds and 10 blocks in addition to seven points against Lehigh over the weekend. Fiacco currently ranks second in the nation with a Patriot League-leading 4.0 blocked shots her game. She owns the Lafayette and Patriot League singles-season records with 108 rejections this season as well as the Leopards' career record with 179 stuffs. The Leopards return to the court on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at Colgate. Lafayette is eyeing a season sweep of the Raiders.
