Women's Hoops Falls to St. Francis (N.Y.), 58-33

NEW YORK, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - St. Francis (N.Y.) out-scored Lafayette 18-2 over a span of 4:48 midway through the contest en route to a 58-33 win in non-league women's basketball action in New York on Wednesday night. Lafayette hit just 10-of-41 shots from the floor, including 0-of-9 from three-point range, in the loss. St. Francis (4-5) was led by Kim Bennett and Tiffany Hill, who tallied 15 and 13 points, respectively. Bennett hit 7-of-11 shots from the field and added six rebounds and four steals, while Hill tacked on five boards. The Terriers jumped to an early 9-2 lead and never looked back. They scored the final six points of the first half to take a 25-13 lead into halftime, then opened the second half with a 12-2 burst to stretch the margin to 22, 37-15, with 15:41 remaining. The Leopards (2-6) drew no closer than 19 points the rest of the way. Freshman forward Vanessa Van De Venter was the lone Lafayette player in double figures. She finished with 11 points and five rebounds. Lafayette's 33 points were the fewest in a game since an 84-28 loss at St. Joseph's on Jan. 6, 1996. Lafayette returns to action on Dec. 29, hosting Texas-Pan American at 5 p.m.
