Benton came to Lafayette fresh off a collegiate playing career at the University of Massachusetts. Benton, the all-time leader with 119 games played for the Minutewomen, also ranks fifth in program history in three-point field goals made (128) and attempted (420).

She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a minor in Education.

A native of Springfield, Pa., Benton played scholastically at Cardinal O'Hara, where she led her team to a pair of Philadelphia Catholic League titles. Benton served as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Comets AAU girls' basketball club for four seasons and also spent time as a site director of the Blue Chip Basketball Tournament at Penn State from 2007-09.
