Frank Grube

Frank Grube '27 was one of those athletes who truly did it all, competing in football, basketball and baseball during his days at Lafayette. He had never played football before arriving at College Hill, but in his three seasons on the team the Leopards lost just three games.

Grube was an All-America end on the undefeated 1926 National Championship team that finished 9-0 and he still holds the school record for the longest drop kick with a 48-yard boot. He was also a four-year captain of the Leopard baseball squad. Grube went on to play professional football with the New York Yankees (1928) and pro baseball with the Chicago White Sox (1931-34, 1936) and the St. Louis Browns (1934-35, 1941). In 2000, The Express-Times of Easton, Pa. named Grube one of the Top 100 Sports People of the Century in the Lehigh Valley.
