James Farrell

James Farrell left his mark on Lafayette athletics after starring in three different sports at the College. In the fall, "Scrapper" Farrell was a rugged running back who earned Associated Press All-American honorable mention laurels as a senior.

He averaged 7.2 yards per carry as a senior and scored five touchdowns. As back up running back in his junior year he scored four times. Farrell was a member of the undefeated 1940 football squad that went 9-0 and allowed just 33 points scored by its opponents on the season. Farrell also starred on the basketball court as a defensive specialist and served as team captain in his senior year. In the spring, Farrell took to the baseball diamond where he eventually landed a starting berth in right field as a senior when he hit .310. He received the Distinguished American Award from the National Football Foundation, Northern Connecticut Chapter. He was instrumental in the formation of Midget-Football in West Hartford and Little League Baseball in South Windsor.
