Football (Inducted: 2008-09)

Tom Costello

Costello left Lafayette as the program's top rusher, receiving numerous accolades and setting many records during an injury-shortened career from 1988-1991. He was a 1988 Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American and a member of the Patriot League First-Team Offense from 1988-89. In 1988, Costello was named the Patriot League and ECAC Rookie of the Year and was the 1989 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year. He also led the league in rushing in 1988 and 1989.

Costello is now Lafayette's second all-time leading rusher with 2,936 yards. He finished with 581 career carries and 28 career touchdowns, the fifth-most in Lafayette history. He is also second all-time in yards gained in an individual season (1,397 in 1989).

There were several games that stood out during Costello's career, including two MVP performances against Lehigh (1988, 89). In the 1989 game against the Engineers, he rushed for 245 yards on 45 carries in a 36-21 Lafayette victory. Costello is still the only Lafayette player to earn Lafayette-Lehigh MVP honors in two consecutive years and is the only Lafayette freshman ever to receive the award.

Costello has made his career in the sales and marketing of medical devices and most recently served as the Director of Marketing for Power Medical Interventions. He currently resides in Sellersville, Pa. with his girlfriend, Caitlin O'Malley. He also serves on the Friends of Lafayette Football steering committee and is the current Class of 1992 Class Fund Manager. He has a daughter, Julia, and son, Kaelin.
