EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette senior Brian Meyers (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) and sophomore Ryan Collins (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central) have been selected to the Verizon District II Academic All-America Team in the spring at-large division.

Meyers was an All-Patriot League Track and Field indoor selection in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001. The senior won the 500 meters in 1999 and 2000 and finished second in 2001. Meyers is also the Lafayette recordholder in that event with a time of 1:04.31, just .03 off the Patriot League record.

This is the second Academic All-America District II selection for Meyers who earned second-team honors in 1998-99. In that sophomore season, Meyers achieved All-Patriot League status in the 400 meters and as part of the 4x400 and 4x100 relay teams.

During his career, Meyers has qualified for the IC4A Championships in several individual events and as part of relays team. Meyers holds a 3.46 GPA and is an honors student in Civil Engineering.

Collins was the ECAC champion at No. 3 singles in tennis after posting a season record of 17-4. The sophomore went 15-4 at No. 3 singles and 2-0 at No. 2 singles to lead the Leopards. He managed a career record of 26-7 in just two seasons as a student-athlete at Lafayette.

In the classroom, Collins holds a 3.83 GPA while majoring in Chemical Engineering. He is also one of a select few students who are Marquis Scholars at Lafayette.

The Verizon District II Academic All-America Team was selected by the College Sports Information Directors America (CoSIDA) from a ballot of nominations submitted by member schools. In order to be eligible, nominees must have reached their sophomore year, maintain a minimum of a 3.2 GPA, and be a starter or key reserve on their team.
