Tennis Captains Named for 2018-19
EASTON, Pa. – Head coach Ralph Van Ormer of the Lafayette men’s and women’s tennis teams named his 2018-19 captains on Tuesday morning, selecting Andrew Reed, Meredith Block and Haley Matthes to lead the respective squads.
Reed, a Chemical Engineering major from Richman, Va. enters his senior season with the Leopards this fall. As a junior, he helped the team to a Patriot League quarterfinal finish this past spring, defeating Holy Cross in the opening round before falling to eventual champion Navy.
“I’m incredibly excited to make an impact on our up-and-coming program,” Reed said. “We had a young lineup this past year and are looking to add more talent with our incoming freshmen for 2018-19. Our team is close to breaking through to the next level, and I hope to create a more dedicated atmosphere during my time as captain.”
Block enters her second season as the women’s captain, taking over for Haley Matthes this season, who went abroad for the spring semester. A Concord, Mass. native, Block’s unit finished 2017-18 at 9-12, including a win over Colgate for the first time in more than 20 years on April 14.
Matthes returns to the team as one of three seniors in 2018-19. While not competing this spring due to her travel, she is excited to rejoin her teammates and make her senior season one to remember, along with classmates Madison Olexson and Anavi Anand.
