May 5, 2014

EASTON, Pa. – Sophomore Brian Pinkard has been selected to the Men’s Tennis Academic All-Patriot League Team, the League office announced Monday. Pinkard was one of six Patriot League student-athletes to be named to the squad.

A native of Puyallup, Wash. Pinkard leads the Leopards with a 3.91 grade-point average as a Mechanical Engineering major. His 3.91 GPA was the highest of the six players honored with a spot on the Academic All-League Team. On the year, Pinkard recorded an 12-15 record in singles competition, including a 4-8 mark against Patriot League opponents. In doubles action, Pinkard went 12-14 overall and 5-8 in the conference, including an 8-0 win over Holy Cross in the Patriot League Tournament First Round.

To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

The Academic All-Patriot League Team honors student-athletes who excel in their sport and the classroom, and the size equals the sport’s first-team All-Patriot League composition. Sports information directors, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes, select the academic award winners.
