EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette men's tennis team dropped a match 5-2 to St. Peter's University Saturday at the Northwood Racquet Club.
Brandon Goldstein (6-3, 6-3), Brian Pinkard (6-3, 6-0), Brian Stefanowicz (6-1, 6-2) and Gavin Studner (6-4, 6-3) each lost in straight sets in the one, two, three and five holes, respectively. Chris Matturri took Fabian Valdiviezo to a third set by taking the second set 6-3 after dropping the first set 6-4, before eventually falling in the third set 10-8. Jake Lazer and Oliver Bellomi went the distance with Lazer taking the match 6-1, 3-6, 11-9.
The Leopards swept doubles action with Goldstein and Stefanowicz topping Carlos Carrera and Tom Jottrand 8-7, Pinkard and Lazer defeating Marko Knezevic and Jorge Rodriguez 8-6, and Matturri and Studner knocking off Mario Huljev and Luke Whaley 8-6.
The Leopards return to action on Saturday when they travel to Fairfield.
