Men's Tennis Splits to Open Patriot League Play

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Lafayette men's tennis team opened Patriot League completion with a split at West Point on Sunday. The Leopards downed Holy Cross, 6-1, before falling, 7-0, to the host Black Knights. Doug Gallagher, Brandon Goldstein, Will Mercorella, Scott Gelbman and Andrew Morris all won their singles matches against the Crusaders. James Oliver was edged at No. 5, ceding his match in three sets. The doubles pairs of Gallagher and Morris, Goldstein and Oliver and Alex Charchalis and Matthew Scheps all triumphed to clinch the doubles point. Army, the preseason favorite to win the Patriot League, won all six singles matches. The Leopards challenged for the doubles point, but the Black Knights eked out 8-6 and 8-7 (1) victories at No.1 and No. 2 to lock up the tally. The Leopards return to the court on Sunday, March 4 at NJIT. League play resumes on Saturday, March 31 at Navy. Results vs. Holy Cross
