Oct. 7, 2013

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette men’s tennis team opened its 2013-14 team season with a bang, sweeping Wagner en route to a 7-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Courts. The Leopards earned victories at each singles competition and took the doubles point with a pair of victories.

Lafayette’s five singles players needed straight sets to win their matches with Brandon Goldstein leading the way at No. 1. Goldstein edged Wagner’s Sawyer Fonda in the first set 7-6 (2-0), before taking the second, and the match, by a 6-4 score. Behind Goldstein was Brian Pinkard, a 6-1, 6-3 winner, Brian Stefanowicz (6-4, 6-4) and T.J. Morgan (6-2, 6-0).

Chris Matturri delivered the most dominant performance of the day, blanking Christopher Jarema in both sets, 6-0, 6-0.

The Leopards wrap up their fall slate at the Lehigh Invitational on Oct. 26 and 27 in Bethlehem, Pa.
