Men's Tennis Takes Part in SJU Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – Several members of the Lafayette men’s tennis team competed at the St. Joseph’s Fall Invitational this past weekend at the SJU Tennis Complex.
A majority of the Leopards played their matches in the consolation draw of the event, but freshman T.J. Morgan advanced to the third round of the main draw. Morgan knocked off Delaware’s Alex Sweet in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5. His next opponent, St. Joseph’s Kyle Chalmers earned the win by winning 6-4, 6-0.
Morgan also was part of a win with Chris Matturri in flight 2 of the doubles consolation, as the duo knocked off Ruiz and Caldwell by a 8-5 score.
In singles flight 2, Lafayette advanced two players to the championship, Brian Stefanowicz and Brian Pinkard. Stefanowicz started with a 2-6, 7-5, 10-7 win over Army’s Shutov and then beat La Salle’s Fetterman, 6-2, 6-3 to move into the final. On the bottom of the bracket, Pinkard used straight sets in his triumphs, winning 6-0, 6-3 in both rounds over Kasinow (LAS) and Peyton (VU).
In the final, Stefanowicz edged Pinkard in three sets by a final of 1-6, 6-3, 10-3.
Lafayette returns to the court on Oct. 6 when it hosts Wagner at 11 a.m.
