Men's Tennis Opens Fall With Sweep at Rider

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Lafayette men's tennis team opened its fall schedule on Wednesday with a sweep at Rider. The Leopards dropped only one set en route to the 7-0 victory. Senior Doug Gallagher and sophomore Sinan Ipeker won in straight sets in their matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, while freshman Brandon Goldstein followed suite with a straight-set win in his collegiate debut at No. 3. Sophomore Will Mercorella went three sets at No. 4 singles, claiming the match with a 10-4 set three win. Junior Scott Gelbman and senior Andrew Morris completed the singles sweep with straight-set wins at No. 5 and No. 6. In doubles action, the Leopards won 3-0 to take the one doubles point. Gallagher and Morris won at No. 1 doubles, Mercorella and Gelbman triumphed at No. 2 and Ipeker and freshman James Oliver won at No. 3. The Leopards return to the court next Wednesday, challenging Wagner at 3 p.m. on Staten Island. Complete Results Singles
