Men's Tennis Sweeps La Salle In First Fall Action

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's tennis team started off the 2006-07 season in perfect fashion, shutting out La Salle, 7-0, in the team's first action of the fall on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Courts.

Lafayette dominated in both singles and doubles action and moved to 1-0 on the season. The Leopards set the tone early in the day, as juniors Paul Guarino and Brett Kraft defeated La Salle's Scott Karwowski and John Maula, 8-1, in the first flight. In the No. 2 slot, freshman Matt McGranaghan and Lee Kojanis paired to down Ross Flockerzie and Christian Harvey by a score of 8-3.

A pair of freshmen, Eric Wiley and Steven Benezra, completed the doubles sweep with a 8-5 win in the third flight.

In No. 1 singles action, Guarino made easy work of Flockerzie, 6-1, 6-2, while McGranaghan followed up with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Karwowski in the rookie's first collegiate action. Kraft went on to top La Salle's Matt Rivera in the No. 3 spot. Kojanis, Wiley and Benezra also claimed their first wins of the season.

Lafayette will be back on the court at the Northeast Intercollegiate Invitational at Brown beginning Friday, Sept. 15.
