Men's Tennis Upended at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Lafayette men’s tennis program was upended 6-1 by Navy over the weekend to fall to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in League play on the season. Chris Matturri picked up the lone victory for the Leopards.

In the first singles match, Brandon Goldstein was ousted in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 and Brian Pinkard was defeated 6-0, 6-1 in the second singles. Brian Stefanowicz fell 6-1, 6-2 in the third while Jake Lazer was bested 6-3, 6-3. After dropping the first set, Matturri won the second set 6-2 and the third set 10-8 en route to the win in the fifth singles match. In the final singles, Gavin Studner dropped the first set 6-0 and was trailing 4-2 in the second before having to retire due to an injury.

Lafayette was swept in the doubles matches as Navy knocked off Goldstein/Stefanowicz 8-4, Pinkard/Lazer 8-3 and the duo of Matturri and Studner 8-3.

The Maroon & White are back in action Wednesday as they travel to Lawrenceville, N.J. to face Rider. The match is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
