EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette men's tennis team traveled to North and South Carolina over spring break to play three matches. The Leopards beat Belmont Abbey in their first match of the trip, but fell to Francis Marion and the College of Charleston to close out the road trip.

Against Belmont Abbey, the Leopards earned a 7-2 win. In singles, freshman Gavin Studner won at second singles, 6-4, 6-7(5), 10-3. Senior Scott Gelbman, sophomore Alex Charchalis and freshman Chris Matturri had little trouble in their matches winning in straight sets. At fourth singles, freshman Brian Stefanowicz ousted Tim Tanko, 6-3, 3-6, (10-8).

In doubles, the Leopards took two out of the three matches with Goldstein and sophomore Jake Lazer winning, 8-2, and Studner and Matturri sneaking by Michael Van Dusen and Gabriel Trombini, 9-8(1).

The Leopards were defeated by Francis Marion, 8-1, in their next match. Lazer won the lone point for the Leopards in his sixth singles match. Lazer earned the victory in a hard fought three-set victory, 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (5-7), 10-7. Goldstein battled at first singles, but fell, 6-2, 7-5.

Lazer and Stefonowicz dropped an 8-5 decision at second doubles, while Goldstein and Gelbman were defeated 8-4 at first doubles.

In the final match of the road trip, the Leopards took on the College of Charleston. The Leopards ran into a tough Cougar, and fell 7-0. Gelbman fell in second singles, 6-1, 7-5. Stefanowicz and Lazer dropped an 8-5 decision at second doubles.

Lafayette takes on Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. on April 5 at 4 p.m.
