JERSEY CITY, N.J. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's swimming and diving team opened its dual meet season by tromping St. Peter's 144-44 in Jersey City, N.J. on Tuesday.

The Leopards were led by several first place finishes including two by sophomore Steven Berkowitz (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) who took home the title in the 1000 free (10:29.45) and 200 back (2:03.98) events. Classmate David Watts (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) paced Lafayette with a first place finish in the 100 free (51.44) while placing second in the 200 free event (1:55.20).

Freshmen Stephen Connlain (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and Jakub Pritz (Holmes, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) also performed well for the Leopards. Connlain took first in the 200 fly (2:06.04) while Pritz came away with two second place finishes in the 200 IM (2:06.01) and 500 free (5:15.50).

Several other Leopards took home first place finishes including co-captain Dan Sherry (Radnor, Pa./Radnor) and sophomores John Veltri (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence), Janis Eisl (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Central) and Kristopher Klein (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego).

In the diving events, junior Justin Gaudreau (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) placed first in the three-meter and second in the one-meter events on the night.

St.Peter's (0-1) hits the road to take on Marist and Fairfield on Nov. 18 at 1 p.m.

Lafayette (1-0) hosts Drexel in non-conference action this Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
