HAMILTON, N.Y.(www.lafayette.edu) - After two days of competition the Lafayette men's swimming team is in fourth place at the Patriot League Championship meet being held at Colgate University.

Ten Leopards placed in their individual events, led by senior Rob Bateman (Lebanon, N.J./Pennington). Bateman was one of four Lafayette swimmers who placed in the 100 yard backstroke event. Bateman's time of 52.69 was good enough for a fourth place finish. Fellow teammate Kristopher Klein (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) placed eigth, followed by Ray Burton and Nathan DeLong (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) who took tenth and thirteenth place respectively.

Other top finishers for the Leopards include freshman Steven Berkowitz (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scothch Plains Fanwood) who finished twelth in the 100 yard butterfly, freshman Janis Eisl (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Central) who placed eleventh in the 200 yard freestyle, and Dan Sherry (Radnor, Pa./Radnor) who took twelth place in the 100 yard breaststroke.

The Championship meet will resume again tomorrow morning, for the final day of competition. Those individuals who qualify will then go on to compete at the ECAC championship meet which will be held on Ferbruary 22nd.
