Hamilton, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette Men's Swimming team kicked off the Patriot League Championships at Colgate with several swimmers recording top performances in their respective events. The three-day event began today in Hamilton, N.Y. by completing 12 events.

The Leopards began with a strong start in their first event by placing fourth in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:30.36. Junior Dan Sherry (Radnor, Pa./Radnor) earned a tie for seventh place in the 50 yard freestyle event with a time of 21.54.

Senior captain Rob Bateman (Lebanon, N.J./Pennington), a consistently strong swimmer for the Leopards, placed third in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 1:55.60. Wrapping up the swimming events for the day, the 400 yard medley relay team took fifth place with a time of 3:39.19.

In the diving events, senior captain Mike Sanda (Tokyo, Japan/St.Mary's) and sophomore Justin Gaudreau (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) performed well in the semifinals of the one-meter competition by placing third and fourth with scores of 220.70 and 213.05, respectively.

The Leopards will resume competition at Colgate tomorrow at 11am.
