ANNAPOLIS, Md. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's and women's swimming and diving team began competition at the Patriot League Championships on Thursday in Annapolis, Md.

Freshman Jakub Pritz took his place in the Leopard record books by smashing the school record in the 50-yd free event with a time of 20.58 during preliminary competition on Thursday morning. Pritz followed that performance by capturing the Patriot League title in a time of 20.71 on Thursday evening.

Other top finishers included the men's 200-yd free relay team of Dan Sherry, John Veltri, Pritz and Stephen Connlain who took fifth place with a time of 1:25.45.

Diver Justin Gaudreau finished in fifth place in the three-meter event (334.25) while Steven Berkowitz swam to a ninth place finish in the 200-yd IM (1:56.38).

The men's 400-yd medley relay team of Kristpher Klein, Cliff Haldeman, Berkowitz and Pritz placed sixth in the event with a time of 3:32.52.

On the women's side, the 200-yd free relay team of Katie Duffy, Erin Malone, Erin Rosensteel and Jenny Moerschbacher took fifth place (1:39.32).

The women's 400-yd medley relay team of Alison Scudder, Erika Hoke, Nancy Haystrand and Erin Rosensteel finished in seventh place with a time of 4:07.84.

Haystrand also finished 12th in the 200-yd IM event (2:11.27) while Duffy (24.88) and Rosensteel (24.89) captured 12th and 13th places in the 50-yd free event.

Lafayette resumes competition on Friday morning at Navy.
